Donald Balser

February 10, 1946 — August 11, 2015

Don W. Balser, 69 of Morgan's Point passed away peacefully at his residence on August 11, 2015. He will be laid to rest at the North Belton Cemetery. His services are provided by Crotty Funeral Home in Belton. A private family service will be scheduled at a later date. Don is survived by his mother Deborah L. Balser of Fruitland Park, Florida; three daughters and their husbands: Edward and Angela Young of Howard, PA, Alan and Deborah Catlett of Morgan's Point, TX and Stephen and Jacklyn Ackmann of Austin, TX; four siblings: Linda Holt of Deatsville, Alabama, John Balser of Thomaston, Georgia, Patrick Balser and Brenda Callaway both of Fruitland Park, Florida; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father Lloyd W. Balser. Donald Wayne Balser was born to Lloyd Weston Balser and Deborah Lea Houston on February 10, 1946 in Indianapolis, Indiana. After his father retired from the military the family settled in Augusta, GA where Don would grow up with his lifelong friends Jeff Dorn and Gary Wheeler. He spoke fondly of memories hunting, fishing and helping run his father's filling station. He met his first wife Judy Belinda Mays in 1971 and they would share three children and 25 years together. They relocated to Texas in the late 70's and Don became a skilled contractor in remodeling and new home construction. His custom paint and wallpaper jobs were annually featured in local home builder's ""Parade of Homes"" showcases and publications. He retired in 2011. Don was a professional bass fisherman and enjoyed spending his free time on the lake with his rod and reel. He liked to restore old boats and read American history books about the Civil War. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with best friend Donna Mark. His daughters remember him as a strong, patient, hardworking man with a big heart, a warm smile, and a great sense of humor. He was cherished by all that knew him. Don fought vehemently against his illness and the family would like to ask that in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at www.LLS.org. They would also like to give a special thanks to Dr. Kathleen Halka and the oncology staff at Scott and White for their endless compassion, comfort and care.
