With profound sadness, yet deep gratitude for a life exceptionally lived, we announce the passing of Charles Wayde Martin, who departed this world on August 8, 2026, in Killeen, Texas, at the age of 76. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, on November 4, 1949, Charles’s journey was marked by courage, compassion, and a steadfast devotion to his family, friends, and the countless souls whose lives he quietly enriched.

Charles’s early years, shaped by the values and warm embrace of his parents, Charles Martin and Ruth Martin, led him to an unwavering path of service. He answered a noble call to serve his country, joining the United States Air Force, where he distinguished himself first as a medic and ultimately as a Master Sergeant in the Military Police. His tenure in the military—always marked by discipline, care, and remarkable leadership—was a source of enduring pride both for himself and all who knew him.

As life’s chapters unfolded, Charles continued to embody the role of protector and caregiver. His work at a group home for underprivileged children carried forward his calling to lift others. Always one to wear many hats throughout his working life, he never hesitated to help and nurture, possessing a special ability to bring hope and warmth wherever he went.

A lifelong learner, Charles possessed a boundless curiosity, acquiring numerous degrees over the years, always striving to better himself and inspire those around him. His love of learning was matched only by his creative pursuits; he poured his heart into poetry and filled family kitchens with the comforting aroma of his favorite crockpot meals—each dish prepared with both skill and affection.

Charles’s character shone with an intelligence both profound and practical, colored by a quirky sense of humor that lightened every gathering. He was the archetypal “big brother”—strong, supportive, and fiercely loving. Outgoing and friendly, he drew people to him, and was quick to lend a helping hand or a listening ear, never failing to offer comfort, advice, or one of his signature witty remarks.

Indeed, Charles was a devoted husband and was hailed by those closest to him as the best son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, roles in which he found immense joy and purpose. Family was the bedrock of his existence. He is deeply mourned by his six surviving siblings, his three loving daughters; Jenny Holder, Sara Howard, and Ellen Martin, a bountiful legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a wide circle of nieces and nephews—all of whom carry forward pieces of his kindness, wisdom, and laughter.

Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda, his beloved father, Charles Martin, and cherished mother, Ruth Martin, whose memory he honored every day through his actions and his heart.

The family will gather with loved ones and friends to celebrate Charles Wayde Martin’s enduring legacy at an inurnment on August 31, 2026, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. The service will begin at 10:00 AM, as his life’s journey is honored in the company of those whose lives he so richly touched.

Though Charles has bid us farewell, his love, generosity, and singular spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know him. In the echo of his laughter, in the wisdom he shared, and in the generations that follow, his legacy shall endure—profound and everlasting.
