Christopher Eugene Johnson, affectionately known as Chris, and “Kango” to his loved ones and friends, embarked on his lifelong journey in Chicago Heights, IL, on April 14, 1968. He passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2025, in Killeen, TX, leaving behind a legacy of love, courage, and generosity that forever marks the lives he touched.
Chris's life was a testament to the power of faith, the strength of spirit, and the joy of family ties. He cherished his role as a devoted husband to Marisa Johnson, and a son to Rosemary Johnson and Nathaniel "Nate" Moore, Sr. Although preceded in death by his beloved siblings Nathaniel E. Moore Jr. and Nicole Hawkins, Chris's bond with brothers Tyrone , Todd, and Theodore was unwavering. His children—Diunte, Crystal, Christopher, Raymecia, and Kyra Johnson—were the greatest treasures of his life, instilling in them the values of love and courage he held so dear.
After graduating from Bloom Trail High School, Chris ventured into the world of entrepreneurship, leading a successful moving company, Johnson Moving Service, with unmatched dedication and hard work. His career mirrored his life—constantly moving forward, lifting others, and navigating the journey with resilience and determination.
Chris’s personality shone bright, and his roots ran deep in his Christian faith. An avid chess player, he was strategic in his personal interests as he was in business. He enjoyed the competitive yet meditative aspect of the game. His love for basketball echoed in the cheers as he rooted for his favorite team or took to the courts himself. In addition to watching sports, you could find Chris at home with family or friends, deep in a game of dominoes, the laughter and trash talking booming as much as the sound of the ivory tiles smacking the table. His artistic side found solace in sketching, capturing the world as he saw it with every stroke. Additionally, music was a cornerstone of his relaxation, often losing himself in the melodies and soulful lyrics of R&B.
Chris’s greatest pride was always his family. To his children he was Dad or Pops-- strong, supportive, and wise in experience. To his grandchildren he was Pop-Pop-- a big loving teddy bear with a playful spirit. Chris made regular time to connect with his grandchildren, valuing each moment spent in their growing presence.
Today, we do not say goodbye to Chris; we say thank you. Thank you for the light you’ve shared, the lessons you’ve taught, and the love you’ve given. Your life was a masterclass in living fully, and your spirit will continue to motivate all who were blessed to know you. Rest now, dear Chris, having lived a truly remarkable journey. Your legacy will always be with us, for it is imprinted on the hearts of your family, friends, and all the lives you’ve touched.
Chris is survived by his loving wife, Marisa Johnson; father Nathaniel E. Moore and mother Rosemary Johnson; children: Diunte Bridges, Crystal Johnson, Christopher Johnson (Noga), Raymecia Johnson, and Kyra Johnson; brothers: Tyron Parker, Theodore Johnson, Nathaniel “Todd” Moore; 15 grandchildren and multiple nephews, nieces, and a host of aunts and uncles.
