Dewey Russell Fikes

April 23, 1952 — June 2, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dewey Russell Fikes, a loving husband, devoted father, and proud “Paw Paw.” Born on April 23, 1952, in Rosebud-Lott, Texas, Dewey departed this life on June 2, 2025, in Belton, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Dewey lived a life filled with dedication and support for his family. For over 20 years, he shared a beautiful partnership with his wife, Sonia Box Fikes of Belton. Their bond was a testament to love and commitment, and together they built a warm and nurturing home. Dewey often expressed that his proudest accomplishment was his family, and it was evident how deeply he valued every moment spent with them.

As a father, Dewey was a guiding light for his daughters, Briana Havens and Mia Box of Killeen. He instilled in them the values of hard work, love, and resilience. He wore many hats throughout his career, having spent 23 years driving buses and garbage trucks for the City of Temple before retiring. He always brought a cheerful spirit to his work. He later came out of retirement to work as a supervisor for Temple Independent School District for 10 years. Dewey’s military service in the U.S. Marines for over four years further defined his character, showcasing his commitment to service and loyalty.

He was known for his affectionate nature, not only towards his family but also as a beloved Dog Dad. He found joy in the simplest of pleasures, especially when spending time with his treasured grandchildren, who knew him as “Paw Paw.” Dewey's laughter and wisdom will forever resonate in their hearts.

Dewey is survived by his loving parents, Arthur and Nancy Fikes; his sisters, Bonnie Kilgore of Bruceville Eddy and Pauline Boggs of Manchester, GA; and his four cherished grandchildren, who will carry on his legacy. He was preceded in death by his dear sister, Joyce Pitts, whose memory he holds dearly.

As we remember Dewey Russell Fikes, let us celebrate the remarkable man he was—full of kindness, strength, and compassion. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love he shared will echo through the lives he touched. Rest in peace, Dewey. You will always be in our hearts.
