Doris Jean Poncik Bennight, passed away on October 20, 2026, in Holland, Texas. She was born on May 10, 1940, in George West, Texas, and lived a life centered on family, hard work, and finding beauty in the world around her.

Jean was educated in Little River Academy, Texas, and went on to build a life marked by dedication and steady care for those she loved. She worked as a laborer at Western Auto Distribution for 25 years, a reflection of her strong work ethic and perseverance. Alongside her husband Delmar, she also shared in operating a vegetable stand in Holland for 20 years, creating another meaningful chapter in a life built close to home and community.

She was, above all, a family woman who loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren deeply. Some of the most treasured memories of Jean are of holidays spent with family at their house and the annual family trips that brought everyone together year after year. Those final moments shared with her became especially precious, remembered for her energy and for the joy she took in simply being with the people she loved.

In her final moments, Jean was surrounded by the love and presence of her family. Even in those precious hours, she remained full of life, energetic and enjoying the company of those who meant the most to her. What might have seemed like ordinary moments together became an extraordinary gift—one last opportunity to hear her voice, share in her spirit, and simply be together. Her family will forever treasure those final memories, holding them especially close to their hearts as a beautiful and lasting reminder of the woman they loved so dearly.

Jean had a creative spirit and a tender way of seeing the world. She loved arts and crafts and was known for keeping everything, no matter how small, because she saw value and meaning in it. She saw beauty in everything, even dead trees, a simple but telling reflection of her generous heart and her way of noticing what others might overlook. Green was her favorite color, and in many ways it suited her well, echoing her appreciation for life, growth, and the natural world around her.

One of Jean’s proudest accomplishments was the enduring love she shared with her husband, Delmar. They were married for 65 years, having wed on July 9, 1961, in Bell County. Their long marriage stood as a lasting example of devotion, partnership, and the life they built together over decades.

She is survived by her children, Charlie Bennight and Ricky Bennight, both of Holland, Texas; Tina Bennight of Holland, Texas; and Melissa Lawrence of Temple, Texas. She is also survived by her brothers, Bobby Poncik of Academy, Texas, and Jimmy Poncik of Temple, Texas; and by her sisters, Peggy Grassi of Odessa, Texas, and Ruthie Barker of Llano, Texas. Each of them carries forward the memory of her love, her strength, and the warmth she brought to family life. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, who were a cherished part of her life and brought her immeasurable love and joy.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Prebble Poncik; her brother, Tony Poncik; her sisters, Francis Grisham, Ann Downing, and Jolene Popisil; her son, Larry Bennight; her grandson, Jessy; her granddaughter, Shelby; and her great-grandson, Baby Hunter.

Jean Bennight will be remembered for the home she made, the family she cherished, the work she gave with faithful hands, and the beauty she found in everyday things. Her life leaves behind a legacy of love, togetherness, and memories that will continue to be held close by all who knew her.
