Dottie Faye Durbin

September 22, 1915 — March 30, 2020

Dottie Faye Durbin was born on 9/22/15 and passed away on 3/30/20 at the age of 104. Dottie grew up in Kirvin, Texas, a small rural east Texas town working in the fields with her family members and tending their wonderful family garden. Whether in good times or challenging times, Dottie spoke with fondness of the neighbor helping neighbor and friends. Church was an important aspect of life in this community and she was baptized on 8/25/1929 at Kirvin Methodist Church. In 1936 she arrived in Austin, Texas and started work at the Austin State Hospital until her marriage. In 1938, she met and married Robert Mathew (Bill) Durbin. They had three daughters; H. Lynett Freeman (Michael Sullins), Sandra Kay Hamilton (James) and Leah Juanelle Turner (Lance). Dottie worked as an Avon Representative for more than 25 years keeping a closet in her home filled with product. Neighborhood customers knew they could stop by and shop from this closet. She also worked as a Clerk for the City of Austin Outreach Clinics for many years and a Houseparent at the Texas School for the Blind retiring with 23 years of service at the age of 80. She loved working with the children at the school. Dottie began sewing and doing handwork at a very young age. She could not wait to get home from school to sew with her Mother. Her sewing skills in high school took her to a state competition. Sewing for her family, designing clothing, quilting, and sewing handwork were a lifelong enjoyment. Her sewing machine was always humming sewing everyday clothes to formals for her three daughters. Dottie was a charter member of Trinity Methodist Church of Austin. She was an active member and held her church family close to her heart. Friendships from this church family continued up until her recent passing. Dottie is survived by her three daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, parents Thomas Lee and Ida Mae Sheffield and 8 siblings. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Dottie will be missed so much by her loving family but her memory will become a treasure. Arrangements are entrusted to Crotty Funeral Home of Belton, Tx.
