Douglas Hurd

November 25, 1933 — July 5, 2022

Douglas Gann Hurd,88, of Temple peacefully entered eternal life on July 5, 2022, may angels lead him in.

He was born on Nov. 25, 1933, Doug’s grandparents raised him in Kilgore, TX where he attended grade school and high school. He also attended Kilgore Jr College, Lamar Tech, and Steven F Austin University. He was a cadet in the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1956.

In 1961, he met, fell in love with, and married Wanda Craver. Doug and Wanda spent their early married years in Port Neches, TX. They later moved to Garland, TX and then to Temple, TX after their retirement. Doug and Wanda lived life to the fullest, enjoying sailing, camping trips, ski trips, and cruises. They loved and enjoyed family and visiting their sons, daughters in law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Doug was a proud Republican, supporter of the Second Amendment, and a gun collector. He liked saying he was just "Old School." Above all, he was a Christian, faithfully attending Christ Episcopal Church in Temple until he was no longer physically able to do so.

Doug is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Hurd.

He is survived by sons Randy Costa and wife Laura, Michael Hurd and wife Lisa, Mitchell Hurd and wife Tammy, as well as 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to Michael and Lisa Hurd for the many months they spent providing loving care to Doug as his primary caregiver.

His memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, August 8, 2022, at the Christ Episcopal Church in Temple.

May the Lord Jesus put his hands on our eyes also, for then we too shall begin to look not at what is seen but at what is not seen. May He open the eyes that are concerned not with the present but with what is yet to come. May He unseal the heart's vision, that we may gaze on God in the Spirit, through the same Lord, Jesus Christ, whose glory and power will endure throughout the unending succession of ages. (Prayer of Origin, 185-254 AD)
