Gary Michael Ray, a man who could fix anything except his own health, departed this world on June 3, 2023, at the age of 69. Born on July 19, 1953, in Sacramento, CA, he later found his way to Belton, where he would become known as the go-to guy for a good laugh and a great time.
Gary, known for his loving nature, quick wit, and exceptional handyman skills. He graduated from Killeen High School in 1971, and while he didn't go on to become a doctor or lawyer, he was a master of all trades. As a carpenter and mechanic, he was responsible for building the foundations of many homes and fixing countless cars, always with a smile on his face and a joke on his lips.
His family was always the center of his universe, and he is survived by his son, Michael John Ray of Belton; his daughters, Catherine Ray of Temple, and Courtney Torrez of Ovalo; and three cherished grandchildren, Bryan Ray, Grace Torrez, and Jeremy Witcher. Gary was the kind of dad who would do anything for his kids.
Gary's interests were as diverse as the tools in his workshop. He was a connoisseur of music, with love for all types. He was also known for his ability to make people laugh, whether he was telling a joke, sharing a funny story, or just being his naturally hilarious self. And let's not forget his talent for building things – from houses to bird houses, Gary could create something beautiful out of nothing but wood and screws.
But what truly set Gary apart was his unwavering love for his family and friends. He was the kind of person who would drop everything to help someone in need, and he did so with a smile and a joke that made even the toughest situations a little bit brighter. His loving, funny, and handy nature endeared him to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As we say goodbye to Gary, we can't help but feel a little bit lighter, knowing that he's somewhere up above, cracking jokes and building the most magnificent houses. And while we'll miss him dearly, we know that his spirit lives on in the laughter and love he left behind.
So here's to you, Gary Michael Ray – a loving father, grandfather, and friend who made the world a better place, one laugh and one project at a time. May you rest in peace, knowing that your legacy of love, laughter, and craftsmanship will live on in the hearts of those who knew you best.
