George Wayne Chappell, a beloved husband, father, and respected US Army Major, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, in Temple, Texas, just two days shy of his 73rd birthday. Born on October 17, 1952, in Brownsville, Texas, George lived a life marked by dedication, service, and an unwavering love for his family.
A proud military man, George served as a helicopter pilot in the US Army, where he not only demonstrated exemplary skill but also fostered connections through his membership in the Army Aviation Association of America. His commitment to his country was a defining characteristic of his character, as he displayed bravery and professionalism throughout his service.
In addition to his military achievements, George pursued higher education with great determination. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Accounting from the University of Houston, followed by a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from Tarleton. His academic pursuits showcased his intelligence and passion for learning, which he imparted to his children.
George was known for his kindness and his remarkable sense of humor, qualities that endeared him to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He cherished family above all, proudly celebrating his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife, Martha Chappell, of Belton, Texas; his son, John Michael Chappell, along with his wife Lori, of Friendswood, Texas; his daughter, Lisa Pamela Chappell, of Belton, Texas; and his treasured grandchildren, Frank and Joy Chappell. George also leaves behind cherished nephews, Seth Shepherd, Drew Hollingshead, Bo Brymer, and Johnny Mack Chappell Jr.
George will be lovingly remembered for his strong family values and the joy he brought to those around him. He joins in eternal rest his brother, Johnny Mack Chappell Sr., and his parents, George Washington Chappell and Angelina Gorena Chappell, who precede him in death. His legacy of love and laughter will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends.
The family of George will be holding a Celebration of Life at a later date.
