Gerald Anthony Wright

Belton, Texas

Gerald Anthony Wright, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on May 1, 2024. He was born on April 20, 1946, in Laurel, MS to John and Lillian Wright (Wilson). Gerald was raised by his uncle, Wilbur Hill and his aunt, Mabel Hill (Wilson) in Biloxi, MS. He led a remarkable life filled with love, compassion, and dedication to his family and community.

Gerald graduated from Nichols High School in Biloxi, MS in 1964. He attended Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, MS as a Music Major. Gerald showcased his musical talent by playing the saxophone in the Marching Band, representing Mississippi Valley State in the Rose Bowl parade in 1965. Gerald was drafted in The Army to serve in Vietnam in 1968. During that time, he married his high school sweetheart, Julene Foster. Gerald served honorably in the Army from 1968-1970.

Throughout his life, Gerald worked as a Post worker for the United States Post Office and as a Social Worker for the Illinois Department of Public Aid in Chicago for many years. His gift of gab and infectious personality made him a cherished figure among those he crossed paths with. Additionally, Gerald attended DeVry Institute of Technology and worked as a DJ at several clubs and lounges in Chicago. He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, playing chess, cards, dominoes, and cheering for the Chicago Bears alongside other Chicago sports teams.

Gerald's proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly his sons and cherished family. He was a man of faith who held a deep love for the Lord which guided him throughout his life.

In addition to leaving behind a legacy of love and service, Gerald is survived by his wife, Julene Wright; his sons, Gerald A. Wright Jr. and his wife, Yvonne, Julius Wright and his wife, Lucille; his grandchildren, Alonzo Holliman, Dewayne Ringgold, Candace Holliman, Jamal Wright, Jasmine Hamlette and her husband Aaron Hamlette, Jalen Wright, Crystal Wright, Brittany Miles, and April Miles; his great-grandchildren, Kenyatta Miles, Caniya Jones, Amani Holliman, Dynasti Miles, Kyrea Miles, Madrid Hammlette, Karter Hill, Kira Miles, Cantrell Zeigler, Legend Hamlette, and Cantron Ware. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Richard Wright, John Wright, William Wright, Arthur "Pee-Wee" Wright, and his granddaughter, Kimifer Miles.

Gone but never forgotten, Gerald will forever be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering dedication to family and friends, and the positive impact he had on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
