James Leray Fitzgerald, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2023, in Temple, Texas. Born on January 23, 1947, in San Saba, Texas, to the late Jim Curtis and Mary Lois (Stevenson) Fitzgerald, James lived a life marked by kindness, love, and faith.
James was a proud graduate of the Class of 1964. After high school, his strong work ethic led him to a fulfilling career as a crane operator, a role he performed diligently for many years. His commitment to his work was matched only by his dedication to his faith. A steadfast member of the Southside Church of Christ in Killeen, Texas, he was an active participant in the church community, regularly attending services and volunteering whenever possible.
James married the love of his life, Ann (Frederick) Fitzgerald, on June 6, 1998, in Killeen, Texas. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home filled with laughter, joy, and faith.
James is survived by his three children, Scott Poteet and his wife, Susy, of Killeen; CJ Frederick and his wife, Megan, of Waxahachie; and Lorrie Mars and her husband, Larry, of Elkhart; two brothers, Lynn Fitzgerald and his wife, Barbara, of Killeen, and Charles Fitzgerald and his wife, Mary, of Ft. Worth; four grandchildren, Cassy Poteet, Josey Kennon, Michael Kennon, and Lucas Kennon. He delighted in their accomplishments and relished his role as a grandfather. James was also blessed to meet his great-grandchild, Lauren Kennon, whose arrival brought him immense joy.
In his leisure time, James had a fondness for solving puzzles, a pastime that kept his mind sharp and his spirit engaged. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and the Dallas Cowboys, rarely missing a race or a game. However, his favorite pastime was spending time with his family, who meant more to him than anything else in the world.
James was a devoted husband, a loving father, a doting grandfather, and a loyal friend. His legacy of love and faith will continue to live on through his family and all those who were fortunate to know him.
