Jerry Rolston

January 23, 1940 — March 11, 2026

Jerry Dean Rolston, a beloved educator, devoted family man, and cherished community member, passed away on March 11, 2026, in Temple, Texas. Born on January 23, 1940, in Gainesville, Texas, Jerry lived a life marked by passion, kindness, and a genuine commitment to enriching the lives of those around him.

Jerry’s educational journey began at Lawton Oklahoma High School, where he laid the groundwork for his future in learning and teaching. He furthered his studies by earning a Bachelor of Arts from Central State College, an achievement that heralded the start of a lifelong vocation dedicated to education. From 1993 until his retirement in 2009, Jerry served with unwavering dedication as a teacher in the Belton Independent School District, shaping the minds and hearts of countless middle school students. His passion for teaching was not just a profession but a calling. He deeply cared about helping others grow, guided by a strong belief in God, though he was not affiliated with any church.

Those who knew Jerry remember him for his gentle spirit and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life. Whether indulging in his love of movies and books or delighting in baking—especially during the holidays—Jerry’s warmth was felt in every corner of his world. Gardening was another favorite pastime, reflecting his nurturing nature. A devoted grandfather, he treasured moments spent with his grandchildren Javier Jr., Kayla, Karla, Jorge, and Kyana, never missing Grandparent's Day at their schools and often surprising them with sweets and treats at home. His friends and family fondly recall the many outings to local favorites like Oscar's Store, Jaliscos, Golden Corral, and Yank Sing, where good food and company were always savored. Jerry also found joy in crossword puzzles, an activity that kept his mind sharp and his spirit engaged.

Jerry’s family mourns the loss of a father and grandfather who was the steady heart of their lives. He is survived by his son, Javier Gonzalez, and daughter-in-law, Maria Gonzalez, along with his beloved grandchildren, 2 sisters, Polly R. Martin of Belton, TX and Betty R. Ellis of Austin, TX, niece, Cynthia Buell of Belton, TX, numerous nephews, great nieces and nephews, and other relatives. They carry forward his legacy of kindness, curiosity, and generosity. Jerry was preceded in death by his father Robert R. Rolston, mother Ola May Mcminn Rolston, and brothers Gene and Billy Bob Rolston, his nephews, Brian Edward Rolston and Thomas Neal Rolston, and great nephew Dwayne Martin.

The Rolston family extends heartfelt thanks to the Baylor Scott & White Hospice team, whose compassionate care in Jerry’s final months provided comfort to both him and his loved ones.
