His memorial service is set for Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 10:00 am at Memorial Baptist Church in Killeen. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of fifty years, Ima Jean Phillips Franks and a daughter, Carolyn Jean Franks Young. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Amy Stacy, Christopher Carter and wife Jennifer and Jeffrey Carter and wife Dolly. He has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and each of them had a very special place in his heart. He was a Navy veteran, who served in World War II, and was a proud patriot. He returned to Houston after serving his country and opened his own glass business. It was in Houston that he felt God's call to the preaching ministry. He sold his business and went to college in Canada to prepare for what God had called him to do. He returned, after graduation, to become pastor of Lone Oak Baptist Church in Snook, Texas where he had attended as a boy. In 1956, he felt God leading him to minister in Killeen and became the Pastor at Memorial Baptist Church, where he would serve for over thirty-six years. He later became pastor at Cedar Valley Baptist Church in Salado. He began a new church, Triple 7 Baptist Fellowship, where he was pastor until his death. During his tenure in the Killeen area, God gave him the vision to begin the Memorial Baptist School, the Japanese Bible group, the Korean Memorial Baptist Mission, with continued support of the Spanish Mission of Memorial Baptist Church. He was asked to preach in many crusades and in other countries. He served on the board of trustees of the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, he was on the board of the Killeen Food Care Center at its' opening, supported the efforts to open the Servicemen's New Life Center, and was also honored with a Golden Deeds Award. He mentored many in ministry as he was often called the ""Pastors' Pastor."" He was never interested in recognition for himself but always wanted everything he did to be done for the Glory of God. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Triple 7 Baptist Fellowship building fund or Triple 7 Baptist Fellowship Operation Christmas Child at 1501 Riverside Dr, Killeen, TX 76542.
