Jon “Nick” Nicholas Hooge, 47, passed away on September 28, 2026, in Round Rock, Texas. Born on May 31, 1979, in Port Arthur, Texas, Nick lived a life defined by courage, determination, and an unwavering devotion to the people he loved.

From an early age, Nick carried within him a strong sense of purpose. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and completed numerous elite training programs including Recon, Combatant Diver, Basic Airborne Course, HALO, and Urban Sniper Schools. In addition to his time as a Reconnaissance Marine, Nick also served as a Marine Mammal Handler and was on the All Marine and All Armed Forces Triathlon Team. His military service stood as a testament to his discipline, strength, and steadfast commitment to protecting others. Nick’s adventurous spirit was evident in every chapter of his life.

Whether cycling, rollerblading, swimming, competing in triathlons, or practicing martial arts, he embraced every challenge with grit and enthusiasm. He believed in pushing himself forward—growing stronger through effort, resilience, and continuous self‑improvement.

As dedicated as he was to service and personal achievement, Nick’s greatest devotion was to his family. He was a loving husband to Lindsey Hooge and a proud father to his sons, Jon Nicholas II, John William (“Will”), and Jon Alexander (“Alex”) Hooge. Guiding his boys and helping shape them into strong, honorable young men was his most cherished role. His family was the heart of his world. Nick is survived by his father, John Edward Hooge; his stepmother, Linda Christen Hooge; and his siblings: John “Chris” Christopher Hooge, Hank Christen, Brandy Klipfel, Brittany Hunt, Chelsea Brogniez, and Megan Jacob.

He is also remembered fondly by many extended family members and friends whose lives he deeply touched. He is preceded in death by his cherished mother, Kathleen Lundsford, sister, Jennifer Hooge Roe, and his grandparents Emil and Coralie Hooge, as well as William and Barbara Patton and his uncle, affectionately known as “Bubba”. Nick was a graduate of McNeil High School and a proud alumnus of The University of Texas at Austin; Nick carried his love of learning and excellence throughout his life.

His character—marked by bravery, thoughtfulness, generosity, and integrity—left an imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

A memorial ceremony will be held on October 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Family and friends will gather to honor his remarkable life, his service, and the enduring legacy he leaves behind. Nick will be remembered for his adventurous heart, his strength through adversity, and the love he poured into his family. His legacy will live on in the lessons he taught: keep moving forward, remain resilient, and hold close the people who matter most. He will be deeply missed and forever honored with love, gratitude, and respect.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution through his obituary page at www.crottyfh.com to help his sons take a special trip in honor of their adventurous father. Though he can no longer be beside them, this journey will be a meaningful way to carry his memory with them, find moments of comfort, and celebrate the spirit of adventure he shared.
