In Loving Memory of Josephine Diane Baines
February 2, 1953 – May 21, 2026
Josephine Diane Baines, lovingly known as “Mom” and “Grandma” to many, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on February 2, 1953, in Washington, D.C., and later lived in Maryland before making Texas her home in 2006.
Private Family Services will be held at a later date
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Baines, who passed away before the birth of her children. She later shared her life with the father of her two children, Nathenal L. Thompson and Tenosha A. Thompson, who also passed away.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Marshall and Clement Marshall, and siblings including Agnes Crawford and Charles Marshall, along with other beloved family members who welcomed her home.
Josephine’s life was defined by love, generosity, and laughter. She never hesitated to help anyone in need and spent much of her life caring for others—raising children within her family, helping friends, and even caring for the children of neighbors. She was truly known as the “neighborhood mom” and “neighborhood grandma,” someone who made everyone feel like family.
She had a vibrant spirit and a deep love for music, especially in her younger years when she enjoyed dancing and celebrating life. She loved movies and television and could always be found keeping up with her favorite shows. Her sense of humor was unforgettable—she had a way of making people laugh without even trying, even in serious moments.
A devoted Catholic, Josephine carried her faith throughout her life. She deeply loved her family, especially her daughter’s cooking, often proudly saying it was even better than her own—something her daughter will always cherish.
She leaves behind her two loving children, Nathenal L. Thompson and Tenosha A. Thompson, along with her beloved grandchildren: Desmond Jr., Ca’Myiah, and Zion Freeman.
In her final days, Josephine was surrounded by love and care. Her son made sure she was comfortable and well cared for, ensuring she had peace and dignity. She left this world knowing how deeply she was loved by both of her children.
Her family shares this message in her honor:
“No matter our differences, we will always stick together because we are all we have. We know our mother is watching over us, and we will continue to love and support one another the way she taught us to. We love you forever, Mom, and we will miss you every single day. Thank you for giving us the best life we could have ever asked for.”
Josephine’s love, laughter, kindness, and presence will live on forever in all who knew and loved her.
