Juanita Estelle Nowlin

Temple, Texas


    Juanita Estelle Bates Nowlin, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 29, 2024, at her home in Temple, TX.  She was granted peace and eternal life with God, having accepted the sacrifice of Christ at a young age. Juanita was cared for in the last days by her three daughters and her last living sister, Sharon Kay Reynolds.  

A Celebration of Life for Juanita Nowlin will be held in her honor at Taylor's Valley Baptist Church in Temple on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 2:30 pm. 

A private burial for Juanita will take place at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, where she will laid to rest with her beloved late husband,  1ST LT. Jerrill Carter Nowlin. 

Juanita Estelle Nowlin was born in Drumright, OK on April 24, 1934 . She married her high school sweetheart, Jerrill Carter Nowlin, of Wynnewood OK on June 29, 1953. Jerrill and Juanita settled in Eagle Pass, TX in 1963.  Together they built homes and developed subdivisions. Juanita kept the finances and raised four children while following all their activities. She was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and was an active First Baptist Church of Eagle Pass member.  She especially loved her Bible study and children’s Vacation Bible schools.  Juanita and Jerrill were cattle ranchers in Maverick County.  She loved the daily ritual of feeding her wild hogs, javelina, deer, and wildlife at the ranch. Together they enjoyed fishing and camping as well as many sports.  They regularly attended Eagle Pass High School football games for about 45 years. Juanita was a registered Emergency Medical Technician.

She invested much time and love in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren assuring them of education and life experiences as a family. Juanita, Mama, and Grandma “ Nita” will be so loved and remembered for her sense of humor and playful spirit. Having enjoyed 89 wonderful years of life with family and friends, Juanita Nowlin went home at last, entering into eternal life.

Her children are Brenda Cheryl Lanig, and her husband, Jackie of Temple, TX, Gregg Anthony Nowlin of Eagle Pass, Valorie Jane Farley, and her husband Tony of Mounds, Oklahoma and Tina Renee Jackson, and her husband Brian of Castroville, TX.  Her ten cherished grandchildren, Jeremy, Jordan, and Jared Lanig, Travis, Lane, and Paige Nowlin, Aaron Carter Hinojosa, L.Cpl.,  Tye Jackson, Sgt., Jay Jackson, and Katrina Jackson, and her beloved 13 great-grandchildren.  One living sibling, Sharon Kay Reynolds resides in Troy, Tx.

Juanita Nowlin was preceded in death by her son, Gregg Anthony Nowlin, her parents, Charles Noel Bates and Bessie Paden Bates, her brothers, Charles Bates, and Arlen Bates, and her sisters, Donna Gammill, and Carol Hinchey.
