Lawrence E Smoot

May 28, 1970 — May 29, 2025

Lawrence Eugene Smoot, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, peacefully departed this world on May 29, 2025, in Killeen, Texas, at the age of 55. Born on May 28, 1970, in Philadelphia, Lawrence lived a life characterized by unwavering faith, dedication to service, and a remarkable love for his family.

A memorial services for Lawrence with military honors will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery In Killeen.

Throughout his journey, Lawrence made significant contributions that left a lasting impact on those who knew him. With strong values shaped by his faith, he dedicated himself to serving his country in the United States Army, where he participated in Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom, ultimately retiring with honor as a Staff Sergeant. After fulfilling his military duties, he found joy in driving a bus for the Killeen Independent School District for over six years, cherishing the opportunity to positively influence the lives of young people every day.

Education was of great importance to Lawrence, who attended Mott High School in Detroit, Michigan, and later pursued higher learning at Summit University in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. His commitment to personal growth and knowledge was matched only by his craftsmanship, as he delighted in woodworking and held a particular fondness for cars of all kinds.

Lawrence's proudest accomplishment, however, was the family he built and nurtured. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara King Smoot, who stood by him through all of life's journeys. He leaves behind three devoted sons: Levi Holden Taylor of Killeen, Trent Nolan Taylor of Copperas Cove, and Jessie William Hicks of Augusta. His brother, Ernest Henry Smoot of Toledo, Ohio, also survives him, along with one cherished grandchild and numerous extended family members and friends who will carry his memory forward in their hearts.

Though he is preceded in death by his parents, William Lawrence Smoot Sr. and Olga Ori Smoot, the legacy of Lawrence Eugene Smoot will live on through the love he shared and the values he instilled in those around him. As we remember Lawrence, we celebrate a man whose spirit was brightened by his faith and whose life was marked by love, dedication, and an unyielding commitment to his family and community. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of everyone blessed to have known him.
