Loyd "Poochie" Wayne
Lawson
August 4, 1937 – March 21, 2026
Loyd Wayne Lawson, fondly known to many as “Poochie”, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, with his son and daughter by his side in Harker Heights, Texas. Born on August 4, 1937, in Belton, Texas, Lloyd lived a life marked by warmth, dedication, and a spirit that brought joy to those around him.
For over 35 years, Loyd served as the postmaster in Seabook, Texas, where his commitment to excellence and community was unwavering. His proudest accomplishments were deeply rooted in both his family and the recognition he received for his outstanding service at the post office—a testament to his work ethic and the respect he earned throughout his career. As much as he loved his career he dreamed of the day he would be able to move back to his hometown of Belton, Texas (Dogridge).
Loyd was a man who never met a stranger; his gift for conversation could stretch on for hours, weaving stories and uniting friends and acquaintances alike. No matter his age or health struggles he was still handsome and was quite the ladies man. His passions reflected his vibrant personality: he loved bowling, watching the Dallas Cowboys, dominos, solitaire, canaska, cornhole, and bingo slots. Loyd enjoyed the thrill of gambling, watching westerns, particularly those featuring John Wayne, and listening to George Jones as loud as possible in his car. He cherished many moments spent at the Belton Senior Center, a place where he found camaraderie and comfort.
Family was the heart of Lloyd’s life. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Trina Bongiovanni, who always thought of her dad as her world and her hero, his son, Gary Lawson will cherish all the memories he has with his dad and what an amazing father he was; and his sister, Rhonda Jarosek—all of Belton, Texas; along with his five treasured grandchildren—Sal Bongiovanni Jr., Adrian Bongiovanni, Gabriella Bongiovanni, Christian Bongiovanni, and Chad Blackburn who carry his legacy forward.
While his parents, J.B. and Leola Lawson, his brother, Bill Lawson, his sister, Betty Jansons, his son, Ricky Lawson, and his first wife, Lenola Joy Baird Lawson whom will always be the love of his life have passed on, their memories live on in Loyd's enduring spirit and the stories he shared.
Loyd’s journey through life was one marked by kindness, perseverance, and a welcoming smile that could ease any worry. His presence will be profoundly missed, yet the imprint he leaves on his family, friends, and community will forever remain a source of comfort and inspiration for all who knew him.
