Her life was shaped by both scholarship and service. She studied at Heidelberg University, an experience that reflected her intellect and her enduring connection to language and learning. She later devoted 15 years to teaching as a German language instructor at Fort Hood, TX, sharing not only knowledge of the language but also the culture, discipline, and appreciation that accompany it. Through that work, she left a lasting impression on those who learned from her and knew her.
Marietta’s life was also deeply rooted in family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil C. Mutter, whom she married in November 1965. She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael H. Mutter, father, Helmut Fassnacht, her mother, Annaliese Strub, and sister Ursla Fassnacht. Their memory remained part of the story of her life and the family she cherished.
She is survived by her son, Andrew Mutter, and daughter, Angelina-Mutter Banks, and two grandchildren, who carry forward her name and her memory with love. In the lives of those closest to her, Marietta’s influence endures in the values she lived by, the work she gave to others, and the devotion she showed to her family.
