Mateo Luis Martinez, affectionately known as Mateo, was born on December 20, 2006, in Temple, Texas. He was tragically taken from us on July 15, 2023, in the very city he was born, loved, and nurtured. Mateo's life was tragically cut short at the tender age of 16, well before his time. Despite his young age, Mateo had an impact on those around him that will be cherished forever.
A viewing for Mateo will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Crotty Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Belton. His funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 24, 2023 at Leap Of Faith Worship Center in Temple with Pastor Zach Griffin officiating. His burial will follow at Wilson Valley Cemetery in Little River Academy.
Mateo was the beloved son of Olivia and Angel Andino, cherished brother to Joseph Martinez, Mary Julia Martinez, and Aniah Andino. He was the treasured grandson of Julia Jurado of Belton, Javier Arnevias Jurado of El Paso, Julian Ybarra of Burnet, Sandra Simmons of Brownville, and Joe Lewis Martinez of San Angelo. Mateo was also a beloved nephew to his uncles Fredrick Morrison of Austin and his aunts Dorothy Ojeda of Belton, Laura Martinez of Ft. Worth, Crystal Martinez of Waco, and Veronica Martinez of Ft. Worth.
A student at Temple High School, Mateo was looking forward to graduating with the class of 2025. Music was Mateo's passion. He found joy in creating his own songs, which gave him a unique voice and a way to express himself. His friends, who called him Spazz, often spoke of his talent and the fun they had while hanging out with him. Like most boys his age, Mateo enjoyed the company of his friends, laughing, and creating memories that will now be cherished more than ever.
Mateo was known for his sense of humor. His funny, thoughtful, and creative personality made him a delight to be around. He had a knack for making people laugh and brightening up their day. His thoughtfulness was evident in his actions, as he always considered others' feelings and went out of his way to make them feel appreciated.
Mateo's life, though short, was filled with memorable moments, laughter, and love. His spirit, his music, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His family will remember him as a loving son, brother, grandson, and nephew. His friends will remember him as a loyal companion and for always making them laugh.
Even as we mourn Mateo's untimely passing, we celebrate his life and the positive impact he had on us. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us of a young man who lived his life with joy, creativity, and kindness. Mateo Luis Martinez may have left us physically, but his spirit will forever be a part of all who knew and loved him.
