Merle Lewis LaPointe

Merle Lewis LaPointe, a dedicated man who served his country and lived a life filled with love and generosity, passed away on November 5, 2023, at the age of 87 in Belton, Texas.

Merle was born on November 8, 1935, in Omro, WI, to Dale William LaPointe and Jennie Mae (Daggett) LaPointe.

Merle graduated from Omro High School in 1953. His thirst for knowledge and his commitment to personal growth motivated him to earn his bachelor's degree. However, it was in the United States Army where Merle truly found his purpose.

Merle served his country with honor and dedication for 20 years before retiring from the United States Army in 1974. Throughout his military career, Merle demonstrated exemplary service and received numerous decorations including the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Drivers Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Sharp Shooter Medal. His unwavering commitment to his duties inspired those around him and left an indelible mark on those who served alongside him.

Beyond his military accomplishments and dedication to service, Merle found solace and camaraderie as a member of the Temple VFW 1820. Above all else, Merle treasured his family. He was a loving husband to Nora Lynn (Moore) LaPointe. Together they built a beautiful life filled with cherished memories.

Survivors include his wife, Nora LaPointe of Belton, Texas; son, Rick LaPointe; daughter, Rose Bewley; brother, Keith LaPointe; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 10 AM Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX with Pastor Bill Cook officiating.

Merle touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will forever be remembered as a courageous and selfless man who gave so much to his country, his family, and his community. May his spirit continue to inspire us all to live with purpose, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those we love.
