Peggy Sue Smullen, a devoted homemaker and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, in her hometown of Temple, Texas. Born on October 21, 1960, in Temple, Peggy lived a life marked by a firm but loving spirit that touched the lives of many.

Peggy was raised in Temple, where she attended Belton High School, an experience that helped shape her steadfast character and her commitment to family and home. Throughout her life, she embraced her role as a stay-at-home mom with great dedication, finding joy and fulfillment in nurturing her family and creating a warm, welcoming home.

Beyond her home life, Peggy had a passion for adventure and relaxation, often enjoying cruises and the serene beauty of beaches. She was also an avid fan of the Axemen TV show, which provided entertainment and enjoyment in her leisure moments.

Her enduring legacy is reflected in the love and respect of her family. Peggy is survived by her beloved spouse, Glen Chadwick, whose companionship was a source of great comfort and strength. She leaves behind her daughters, Shannon Mercer and Geneva Gossett, both of Gonzales, Texas.

Peggy’s family extended to her step-children: Tony Smullen and Rose Smullen, both of Maryland, and Sung Smullen of Houston, Texas. She was also a cherished sister to Glenn E. Ford Jr. (known as Bubba) of Moody, Texas, Ronald E. Ford Sr. of Clayton, North Carolina, and Rick Ford of Streator, Illinois. Her sisters include Deborah Sinyard of Gatesville, Texas, Beverly Totter of Troy, Texas, Glenda Sloan of Austin, Texas, and Collen Totter of Arizona. The many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces who survive her—represent the wide circle of family who treasured her presence. Her family also remembers with fondness her two beloved puppy-kids, Bella and Jesse, who brought joy into her life.

Peggy was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren, two of which she raised as her own—Michael Mack and Shane Smullen, and a great-grandmother to twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom were enriched by her love and guidance. Her memory is also tenderly held alongside those of her deceased family members: her parents Peggy Dixon and Glenn E. Ford Sr., her first husband Harry Smullen, and her brothers Mark and Frank Totter.

Peggy Sue Smullen will be remembered for her steadfast affection, her dedication to family, and the quiet strength she brought to every facet of her life. Her legacy endures in the hearts of those who loved her, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Following the graveside service, the family warmly invites friends and loved ones to share a meal together at the Flat Community Center, located at 159 County Road 334, Flat, TX 76544.
