Sandra E. Popp, affectionately known as Sandy was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her.
Born on January 9, 1945, in Herndon, WV, she embarked on her final journey on September 28, 2025, in Kempner, TX, after a prolonged illness. Sandra's life was a tapestry woven with love, resilience, and the warmth of family ties. Sandra's early life in the rolling hills of West Virginia instilled in her a sense of pride and belonging that she carried throughout her life. Her parents, Herbert and Ellen Cook, along with her siblings, were the bedrock of her formative years. Though she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Robert Cook, Herbert Cook, Elizabeth Ellison, Carol Berry, Mary Kirkum, Helen Dies, and Thomas Cook, she is lovingly remembered by her surviving brothers and sister Charles Cook (Delores), Martha (Thomas) Dies and James Cook (Wanda), who cherish the memories they shared.
The journey of love led Sandra to her devoted husband, Robert Popp, with whom she built a beautiful life. Together, they nurtured a family that included her children, Richard A. May, Robin M. (Kevin) Davis, Patricia L. Macri, Karen L. (Thomas) Davis stepchildren Robert E. Popp (Anne) and Cori L.P. Woloszny, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews too numerous to name. Each family member was a precious gem in the necklace of her life, held close to her heart until her last breath.
Sandra's education was not confined to the walls of a classroom; rather, it was the world itself that became her teacher. As an Army wife, she traveled extensively, absorbing the cultures and customs that would later influence her creative passions. She was a lifelong learner, always eager to explore and understand the world around her. Professionally, Sandra embraced a variety of roles with enthusiasm and skill. Working alongside her husband in the construction of homes, she found great satisfaction in the tangible results of their shared labor. However, her true calling was that of a homemaker and, most importantly, a Nana. Her grandchildren will forever recall her radiant smile and the unbounded joy she brought into their lives. They were her pride, her legacy, and the focus of her deepest affections. Sandra's interests were as diverse as they were fulfilling. Crafting, cooking, and traveling were not mere hobbies but extensions of her love for life and her family. She poured herself into these activities, creating not just meals or projects, but memories that would last a lifetime. Her love for her West Virginia roots and the bonds she shared with her siblings were sources of immense pride and identity. In remembering Sandra E. Popp, we are reminded of the indelible impact one life can have on so many.
Her story is one of enduring love, relentless optimism, and the grace with which she faced life's challenges. Sandra's legacy will continue to inspire and guide us, just as the stars guide travelers on their journey home. She will be deeply missed but eternally cherished in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
