Thelma Ruth McGee, a remarkable woman whose heart was as expansive as her zest for life, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, in Temple, Texas. Born on January 8, 1933, in the small town of Telephone, Texas, Thelma’s journey was marked by boundless compassion, unwavering dedication, and a spirited embrace of adventure that defined her character throughout her 93 years.
As an esteemed educator, Thelma devoted over a quarter of a century to shaping young minds, serving with admirable commitment at Emmanuel Baptist and the Veterans Affairs institutions. Her passion for teaching was only rivaled by her profound love of children. She was renowned for her ability to connect effortlessly with people, never meeting a stranger, and forging friendships that spanned decades. A woman of vibrant interests, Thelma’s adventurous spirit led her down exhilarating paths—from riding roller coasters that whipped her hair wild to gliding gracefully across waters while waterskiing. Her lifelong pursuit of excitement was balanced beautifully with gentler pastimes; she found solace in tending to her beloved roses, crafting exquisite pottery, and retreating to the serene embrace of the lake. Her affinity for the colors purple and gold was emblematic of her regal spirit and luminous presence.
Among her many proud accomplishments was her period of study dedicated to ice skating, a testament to her willingness to explore new challenges and embrace learning in all its forms. Thelma’s life was a tapestry woven with threads of courage, joy, creativity, and loving nurture.
She was the cherished daughter of Earl Frederick and Treva Mae Moore, both now departed, and was predeceased by her devoted spouse, James Newton McGee, as well as siblings Royce Earl Moore, James C. Moore, and Joyce Hughes. Left to honor her legacy are living family members who carry forward her indelible imprint: daughters Kim Elkins, Jenice McGee, and Cindy David and husband, Kenny David; her brother Bobbie Moore; and her sister Shirley Simpson; along with her beloved grandchildren James Cody McGee and his spouse Nadine Thomas, Brittany Nicole Wentz and her husband Brad Wentz, and Kristen Renee Elkins and Davlyn Adams. Her love and influence shine still in the lives of her great-grandchildren, James Cody McGee, Brady Harrison Wentz, Ella Adalyn Wentz, and Ava Cathryn Wentz.
A memorial service celebrating Thelma’s vibrant life will be held on June 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Crotty Funeral Home & Cremation Services, located at 5431 U.S. Highway 190 in Belton, Texas. Those who gather will honor a woman whose soul embodied both the thrill of adventure and the warmth of enduring friendship.
Thelma Ruth McGee’s legacy is one of unwavering kindness, joyous exploration, and heartfelt connection. She leaves behind a world enriched by her presence and forever illuminated by her radiant spirit. In remembering her, we celebrate a life lived fully, with open arms and an open heart.
