Edward Monroe

October 5, 1959 — May 9, 2023

Temple, Texas

Edward Jurgen Monroe, better known as Ed to his family and friends, passed away on  Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at his residence at the age of 63. Born in Germany to Gary and Edith Mueller Monroe on October 5, 1959, Ed spent his life proving that laughter truly is the best medicine. With his signature cowboy boots, hat, and a heart as big as Texas, Ed danced his way into the hearts of all who knew him. Private family Services will be held at a later date.

Ed is survived by his loving fiance, Lori Shelton of Denton, Texas, his two beautiful daughters, Brandy Hargrove of Temple and Heather Monroe of Temple, and three grandchildren who will carry on his legacy of laughter and love. Although he has left this world, his infectious spirit will live on in the memories and stories shared by his family and friends.

A talented painter by trade, Ed spent most of his life creating colorful masterpieces on walls, ceilings, and the occasional family pet (by accident, of course). He leaves behind two beloved pets, Lady and Bella. They will miss his constant companionship and love.

Ed's passion for life was evident in his love for dancing to country music, complete with his cowboy boots and hat. He could often be found cutting a rug at the local honky-tonk, twirling his partner around the dance floor with the grace of a seasoned pro. Back in the day he was called a Ladies Man and best dancer on the floor. His love for classic rock was only rivaled by his love for LED lights, creating a unique fusion of old and new that could only be described as "Ed's Rockin' Rodeo."

When he wasn't dancing or painting, Ed was cheering on his beloved Longhorns football team. With the fervor of a true fan, he never missed a game and could often be heard shouting encouragement (and the occasional good-natured heckle) at the television. It's been said that the Longhorns lost their biggest fan, but they've gained an angel in the end zone.

Ed had a sweet tooth that could only be satisfied by his favorite treat: ice cream. Ed could always find room for a scoop (or three) of the frozen delight. In fact, it's rumored that his love for ice cream was so strong, it's what kept him cool under the hot Texas sun.

A modern-day Renaissance man, Ed embraced technology and used it to spread joy to his loved ones. He was known for sending funny memes and heartfelt messages to his daughters, proving that laughter truly is a universal language. His texts were cherished by his family, and they will undoubtedly be saved and reread for years to come.

Ed's love for his family and friends was immeasurable, and he had a knack for making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room. His loving, funny, and friendly nature was a testament to his belief that life should be lived with joy and laughter.

In honor of Ed's memory, let us all remember to dance like no one's watching, laugh like there's no tomorrow, and love like we've never been hurt. For in doing so, we can keep his spirit alive and ensure that his legacy of love, laughter, and friendship continues to brighten the world.

So, raise a glass of your favorite ice cream, put on your dancing boots, and crank up the classic rock in memory of Edward Jurgen Monroe. May he rest in peace, knowing that he brought happiness and laughter to all those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Crotty Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Belton is in charge of arrangements.
