James Baldwin Jonte'

January 17, 1951 — February 8, 2021

James Baldwin Jonte', 70, of Killeen, passed away on Monday, February 8th, 2021 after a roller coaster of health issues.

James was born on January 17, 1951, and was adopted by Floyd D. Jonte' and Willie Mae Jonte' a few days later in Beaumont, Texas.  After graduating from Texas City High School in 1969, he went on to study criminal justice at Sam Houston State University.

After graduation, he wore many hats for many years; from being a police officer. to taxi driver. to locksmith. even being the church sexton at First Presbyterian Church in Texas City. In 1972, he met Pamela Miller and they married on January 18, 1973.  They went on to have three children, Jason, Jeanette, and Julie.

James was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his grandbabies, Casondra Zagurski (husband Dylan, and son Colt Zagurski), Drake Spradlin, Alexander Smith, Erika Spradlin, and Bailey K. Smith. He always tried his best to support them, loved watching them grow, and was over the moon excited about his soon to be born first great-grandchild Colt Zagurski.

James was also a passionate tinkerer and could often be found taking things apart and solving any puzzle put in front of him.

Anyone who knew James knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. James was predeceased by his mother and father.  He is survived by wife Pamela Jonte', son Jason Jonte', daughters Jeanette Smith with husband Aaron, and Julie Fees with husband Andrew. Grandchildren Casondra Zagurski with husband Dylan and son Colt Zagurski, Drake Spradlin, Alexander Smith, Erika Spradlin, and Bailey K Smith.
