Robert Allen

September 20, 1950 — May 21, 2023

Killeen, Texas

On the blessed day of September 20, 1950, the Lord saw fit to bring into this world a loving, faith-filled, and selfless man by the name of Robert Everett Allen. Born in Chicago, IL, to the late Warren and Roberta Allen, Robert would grow up to touch the lives of countless individuals with his warm spirit and unwavering devotion to his faith and family.

As a young man, Robert was a diligent student and a proud graduate of St. Elizabeth Grammar School and De La Salle High School in Chicago, IL. His thirst for knowledge and passion for history led him to attend Langston University in Oklahoma, where he majored in History.

It was in his youth that Robert felt the call of the Lord upon his life and became a member of Progressive Church of God in Christ (COGIC) under the leadership of Elder James Alford. Robert's commitment to his faith was evident in his service as a minister of the gospel, teacher of YPWW, and member of the Progressive Radio Choir. Under the guidance of Sis Vera Grace, Robert also became one of the church's radio announcers. In October 1976, the hand of divine providence brought Robert to the pastor's anniversary celebration at Good Shepherd COGIC, where he met the love of his life, Sherry Stewart. On October 8, 1977, the two were joined in holy matrimony, and from their blessed union came four beautiful children: Angela, Deborah, Robert II, and Michael.

Robert's love for his family and his country led him to join the United States Army in1983, with his first duty station at Fort Campbell, KY. Throughout his military career, Robert's love for singing and worship remained steadfast, as he joined the choir at every duty station and served as a praise and worship leader at Copperas Cove COGIC under Elder J.E. Fisher. He also attended Barton Chapel COGIC services under Elder Paul Watson and Christian House of Prayer under Bishop Nathaniel Holcomb and Pastor Valerie Holcomb, where he sang with both Logos and Rhema Choirs and served as one of the Rhema Choir Chaplains.

Robert's faith and dedication to the Lord were further demonstrated through his service as a Service leader in South Korea and his graduation from Christian House of Prayer Sonship School of the Firstborn. His joy in the Lord was never more evident than when he sang "I Got Just What I Wanted from The Lord" upon the birth of his beloved son, Robert II, whom he affectionately called "The Crowned Prince." In the twilight of his earthly journey, Robert was blessed to meet his first grandchild, Robert III, and the joy that filled his face upon their meeting was a testament to the love he held for his family.

On May 21,2023, the Lord called Robert Everett Allen home to join his parents, Warren and Robert Allen, and his brother, Warren Allen II, in eternal rest. He passed away in Temple, TX, after a courageous battle with illness, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and selflessness that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.

Robert leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Sherry; his loving children, Angela, Deborah, Robert II (Bianca), and Michael; his adored grandchild, Robert III; his sisters, Renee and Gladys; sister-in-law Carolyn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.

As we gather to celebrate the life of Robert Everett Allen, let us remember the love, faith, and selflessness that he embodied, and strive to carry on his legacy in our own lives. May he rest in the arms of our Lord and Savior, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
